About Us

Friends of Blaine (FOB) is an independent, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) comprised of passionate parent volunteers charged with raising money to support high-quality educational programming and improving the learning environment for the students at James G. Blaine Elementary School.

FOB helps Blaine to enrich, enlighten and expand the minds of more than 900 culturally diverse neighborhood children in grades Kg – 8th through continuous fund-raising efforts.

Friends of Blaine works with parents, educators, local businesses, Chicago-based corporations and grant-giving foundations to solicit charitable donation in the form of financial assistance, products and services. Donations ensure that Blaine continues to grow as one of the premiere elementary schools in the Chicago Public School system.

FOB aims to operate with the greatest community involvement, inclusiveness and transparency possible. We strive to improve the educational experience with the input of volunteers to keep overhead costs minimal. Nearly 100% of what we raise is given directly to the school to fund improvements for the curriculum and infrastructure to boost learning opportunities for our children.

Since 2003, Friends of Blaine strives to improve the educational excellence of Blaine Elementary with ongoing financial help. In the past year, FOB has given or allocated funding for items including:

  • Middle School lockers – installed in January 2016
  • We’ve Got Game, recess and lunchroom supervision
  • Dance programs such as Looking Glass Theater, Forward Momentum and Dancing with Class
  • Blaine Blast printing
  • and much more with your help!
